The Shrewsbury Academy has been involved in the ‘Safer School’ initiative for a number of years. This is a security and safety process supported by Shropshire Council and West Mercia Police. Last week, the academy held a ‘Safer School Group’ meeting at the Worcester Road site and it was an extremely thorough and positive meeting. This meeting included staff of varying responsibilities from across the academy and it is planned to include students and a governor at the next meeting. The Group reviewed security/safety with the aid of a checklist, analysed feedback from both the parent/carer and student ‘Safer School’ surveys and finally, reviewed incidents/issues at the site. Using this information, the Group created an action plan for review at a future meeting in October. During recent years, the academy had been preparing the Worcester Road site for ‘Safer Schools’ so it is with great satisfaction, that the site will receive its ‘Safer School’ accreditation later this term – Congratulations!!
