Shrewsbury Academy’s Curriculum

The Shrewsbury Academy aims to provide a broad and balanced curriculum for all students.
Fully equipped specialist rooms are used for Information Technology, Design Technology,
Art, Performing Arts, Science, Music, Hair and Beauty and Motor Vehicle Mechanics.

The majority of students follow a curriculum of Maths, English, Science, History, Geography,
MFL, Design Technology, Art, Drama, Music, Life Skills, ICT and PE. A small cohort of
students will follow an alternative curriculum where necessary to ensure their Literacy and
Numeracy skills are improved at an accelerated rate. In the January of Year 9 students will
be taken through the option pathways and they will be supported by staff to ensure they
choose subjects which will allow them to achieve their full potential.

All students follow a core curriculum of GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Mathematics,
Science, along with core PE, ICT and Life Skills or Citizenship. We offer a variety of option
subjects that will support and develop the needs of all students; to list a few these include
History, Child Development, Hair and Beauty, Psychology, Product Design, Performing Arts
and Motor Vehicle Mechanics.
